Barebones sets new font for BBEdit
Posted on 16 Dec 2008 at 11:28
Barebones has released an update for its popular web and code editor, BBEdit.
In addition to providing numerous bug fixes, the update adds several new tools and features as well as a new default font.
Consolas, which has been specially licensed from the Ascender font foundry, is an anti-aliased font designed for code editing and is now the default font for new documents unless specified otherwise.
The other major change is a rewriting of the internal FTP implementation to improve performance and reliability. The “Passive” setting for FTP is no longer used. When transferring, BBEdit will first attempt a passive connection; if the server does not support passive transfers, the application will then attempt a non-passive (PORT) connection.
Barebones has also revamped the layout of the FTP/SFTP browser windows and the Save to FTP/SFTP Server dialog. Among the changes is a sortable file list that includes the modification date as reported by the server.
Other new features include command line and script support for sending content to the Scratchpad and support for relative references in project documents.
BBEdit 9.1 is available from barebones.com/support/updates.html.
