Apple cuts MobileMe sync time to one minute
Posted on 16 Dec 2008 at 12:03
Apple has provided details about the latest round of improvements to MobileMe, its cloud-based software and services suite.
The key change is faster syncing. Instead of updating every 15 minutes—a situation that forced Apple into a slightly embarrassing climbdown—contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Mac sync automatically within a minute of the change being made on the computer, another device, or at me.com. This change requires the Mac OS X 10.5.6 update.
Apple has also addressed: syncing issues resulting in the temporary disappearance of contacts from an iPhone or iPod touch; and inconsistent data alerts when syncing contacts and calendars.
Changes to Mail include improved reliability of email notifications, faster startup and response times in webmail and a fix for inconsistent time settings.
Calendar and login issues have also been fixed, as has a problem preventing the upgrading of accounts.
Apple notes that to get the full benefits of these changes, you need to be running you should be running the latest versions of Leopard (or the MobileMe Control Panel on a PC), and the newest iPhone/iPod touch software.
For more information see: MobileMe: Service Updates as of December 15, 2008.
This is the second time that Apple has provided a breakdown of Mobile Me changes, having previously detailed the Late-September 2008 update..
