Web creator shares internet regrets

The creator of the internet has said that he has regrets about the way he developed the web. Tim Berners-Lee admitted that he shouldn't have started web addresses with http://. He explained that the two slashes are redundant and rued the fact that they had led to billions of wasted keystrokes over the years.
He also said that he should have changed the way that web addresses were constructed. Berners-Lee said that it would have made more sense to start with the most general elements, such as the name of a country or organisation. He used the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) information web page as an example, explaining that it should have read ch/cern/info instead of info.cern.ch.
The admissions came at the 20th anniversary celebration of the invention of the internet at CERN. It was here that Berners-Lee first drew up his proposal of a way of sharing information on computers, which later became the internet.
