Windows XP lives on in Windows 7

Windows XP will live on in Windows 7, but as a virtual machine rather than a full operating system. Dubbed XP Mode, the feature will let users install and run applications designed for Windows XP.
The virtual machine will come as standard with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise, and is primarily designed to give businesses still running Windows XP a reason to upgrade.
The feature is designed to be easy to use and will be integrated tightly into Windows 7.
"All you have to do is install applications into the [Windows XP Mode] VM," said Laurence J Painell, Windows OEM & WGA marketing manager at Microsoft.
You'll be able to try out Windows XP Mode at all of Windows 7's other features when the release candidate is released for public download on May 5.
