Create your own official Vista Service Pack 2 disc
Posted on 26 May 2009 at 15:11
Having the latest service packs on disc is a convenient way to make sure that they're always to hand when you need them. With Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) there's no need to sign up for any 'free' deals that you may have seen, as Microsoft has provided a way that you can create your own official disc free of charge. We'll show you how to do it. All you need is a blank DVD.
Microsoft has put the official Vista SP2 DVD image on its website, which contains the service pack for 32bit and 64bit versions of Vista. Simply download this ISO file to your hard disk.
To burn the image file to disc you need an application capable of burning them. Both Roxio Creator and Nero Burning ROM can do this. If you don't have either of these applications, download the free ISO Recorder instead. Only the Vista version (3.1) supports DVD recording, so make sure you download this and not one of the previous versions.
Once the software is installed, insert a blank disc into the drive you're going to record the image to and use Windows Explorer to browse to the Vista SP2 ISO file that you downloaded. Right-click it and select Copy image to CD. Select your CD writer from the list and click Next to burn the disc.
