Our Rating
MasterCook: Two Fat Ladies contains 200 or so recipes from the TV series, written with characteristic wit by Clarissa Dickson Wright and the late Jennifer Paterson.
Accompanying them are several 'instructional' videos - most often scenes of the two sounding off on matters only loosely related to the recipes, or drooling as they pass by fields of livestock.
The rest of the program is a sort of glammed-up database of recipes and tips, enabling you to plan meals and print out shopping lists. You can even analyse the nutritional content of dishes, though it's hard to imagine the latter showing the Two Fat Ladies' menus in a flattering light. This, in combination with the distinctly American slant to the tips (lots of information on Mexican vegetables), gives the impression that the program has been hurriedly thrown together.
Ultimately though, the recipes alone make this CD worth every penny. With the added virtue of inspirational writing from cookery's original gruesome twosome, it's pretty good entertainment too.
