Google: don’t download Mac Chrome
Posted on 5 Jun 2009 at 10:06
Google has released a first official version of its Chrome browser for Mac OS X, but is warning users not to download it.
This first build for the Mac, which accompanies Chrome’s debut on Linux, is explicitly designed for developers who are contributing to the Chromium open source project.
"In order to get more feedback from developers, we have early developer channel versions of Google Chrome for Mac OS X and Linux, but whatever you do, please DON'T DOWNLOAD THEM!" urge product managers Mike Smith and Karen Grunberg on the Chromium blog. "Unless of course you are a developer or take great pleasure in incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software."
The developer build also lacks a significant number of even basic features and has no Flash plugin (though some might consider that a plus).
Google recently released Chrome 2 for Windows, but has so far struggled to attract a significant number of the browser users, with only 1.8% share in May 2009 according to Net Applications.
