WWDC: September release for cut-price Snow Leopard

Apple has announced that the next version of Mac OS X will be released in September. In the US the company will charge just $29 for the upgrade, but hasn’t yet said how that will translate in the UK.
Snow Leopard brings a host of new technologies to the Mac platform as well as refinements to 90% of the operating systems components, refinements that Apple says will boost performance by as much as 50%.
Apple says that users will notice a more responsive Finder, Mail that loads messages 85% faster and conducts searches up to 90% faster; and 50% faster initial backups in Time Machine.
They will also get more disk space. Snow Leopard is half the size of Leopard and once installed will release up to 6GB of drive space.
Snow Leopard also includes a completely new version of QuickTime, with a redesigned player that lets users not only view but also record, trim and share video to YouTube, MobileMe or iTunes.
It also has support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 built into Mail, Address Book and iCal so these applications can send and receive email, create and respond to meeting invitations, and search and manage your contacts with global address lists.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will be available in September as an upgrade to 10.5 Leopard and requires an Intel based Mac.
Tiger users will have to buy the Mac Box Set comprising Snow Leopard, iLife '09 and iWork '09, which costs $169.
