Has Bing left Google quaking in its boots?

Bing may have been just what the doctor ordered for Microsoft amid reports that Google co-founder Sergey Brin is leading a team of Google's top engineers to work on "urgent upgrades" to the search giant's infrastructure.
"New search engines have come and gone in the past ten years, but Bing seems to be of particular interest to Sergey [Brin]," said an anonymous Google insider cited by The New York Post.
A Google spokesperson declined to comment on the level of Brin's interest in Bing, but did say that the company always has a team working on improving its search algorithms. "We dedicate more time and energy to search than anything else in our company," said the spokesperson. "Our algorithm is constantly evolving."
Bing launched just two weeks ago and has already boosted Microsoft's search market share from eight per cent to about 11 percent according to the latest figures. Interestingly though, the gains didn't come from either of its biggest rivals, Google and Yahoo!
Microsoft's latest attempt to tackle Internet search is still a long way behind both Google and Yahoo!, who account for about 60 per cent and 20 per cent of all Internet searches respectively. But analysts remain quietly confident about Bing's prospects of becoming the second most used search engine. They don't expect Bing to knock Google off its top spot, though.
