PC manufacturers have started to release details of free Windows 7 upgrades for customers that buy a new Windows Vista PC now.
HP was the first company to announce its upgrade plan. It's offering a free Windows upgrade kit with the bulk of its desktop and laptop systems that run Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or Ultimate bought between 26 June 2009 and 31 January 2010. These versions of Windows entitle users to Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate respectively, with the same bit version as currently installed (32bit or 64bit).
The upgrade kit, which will consist of utility and upgrade discs, will be shipped to users that register for the upgrade on Windows 7 Upgrade Program website.
Fujitsu Siemens has announced a similar deal for its Esprimo and Amilo PCs and laptops, and Lifebook laptops. Users with qualifying computers will get an upgrade voucher and should register on Fujitsu's Windows 7 Upgrade Program website.
The upgrade will incur a charge for media creation and shipping, and will upgrade the 32bit or 64bit versions of Windows Vista Home Premium and Business to the 32bit or 64bit versions of Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional.
