Microsoft begins Windows 7 beta close down
Posted on 2 Jul 2009 at 12:24
Microsoft has begun the automatic process of shutting down the Windows 7 beta, which causes systems running the beta version of the hugely anticipated OS to shut down every two hours.
This will prove to be more than a little annoying for anyone with the OS installed - it's meant to be, of course.
Microsoft made the Windows 7 Release Candidate available in May and no longer needs users to test an outdated build. The Windows 7 beta will finally shut down completely on 1 August 2009.
The Release Candidate also improves the OS in quite a number of ways too - there's really no reason for you to still be running the beta version. Release Candidate users can expect the same to happen soon though - you've got until 1 March 2010 before the bi-hourly shut downs start ahead of the 1 June 2010 expiration.
Of course, there's plenty of time for you to grab the final version of Windows 7 before the Release Candidate expires - the OS is released on 22 October and there will be some good promotions for early adopters.
