Microsoft says we will get upgrade versions of Windows 7

Microsoft has finally confirmed, in wake of its decision to ship Internet Explorer with Windows 7 in the UK, that we will get upgrade versions of its new OS.
The company had previously decided to ship Windows 7 in Europe in special Internet Explorer-free E editions to meet competition laws; a decision that pushed back the launch of the upgrade versions until 2010.
As way of compensation, Microsoft decided to offer UK consumers the chance to buy a full edition of Windows 7 at a discounted price usually reserved for the upgrade editions. The good news is that anyone that pre-ordered the full version at the discounted price will still get it, and will not be downgraded to an upgrade version.
"While Microsoft will now have upgrade Full Packaged Product (FPP) SKUs of Windows 7 available in Europe, we will continue to honour the pricing offers made in Europe before this change is implemented," said a Microsoft spokesperson. "Those who pre-ordered the E version will receive the equivalent version as the rest of the world."
The bad news, for now, is that there's still no plans to launch the Family Pack, which comes with three licences, will be available in the UK.
