BT accelerates with free “I-Plate”
Posted on 5 Aug 2009 at 12:30
BT is no longer charging its broadband customers for the “I-Plate”, the small device that can significantly boost the speed of ADSL connections.
Rebranded as the BT Broadband Accelerator, the screw-in faceplate fits over the main telephone socket in the house and works by works by replacing circumventing wiring that was required by old-style bell telephones. Al this wiring does now is pick up interference created by TVs, lights and other electrical equipment in the home.
Introduced last year, the plate can increase the speed of an ADSL connection by more than 50% and improve stability.
The device is available from BT for £1.20 p&p. The BT Broadband Accelerator page has a series of questions that will determine whether you can make use of the plate.
