Apple details Snow Leopard incompatibilities
Posted on 28 Aug 2009 at 09:59
Apple has revealed that Snow Leopard automatically disables software that is known to be incompatible with the new version of Mac OS X.
During installation, Snow Leopard moves software that can quit unexpectedly or cause other issues to a folder named Incompatible Software at the root level of the hard drive. It also prevents this software from opening.
Among the applications affected are several anti-virus tools, early versions of Parallels, the Application Enhancer plugin that enables several “haxies” and what was, until today, the latest version of Apple’s own Aperture software, for which an update is now available.
Apple has also provided a complete list of scanners and printers that are supported.
By default, Snow Leopard installs software supporting the printers currently used by your Mac, nearby printers on your network, and popular printer and scanner models. These settings can be altered by doing a custom installation. Additional drivers can also be added at any time using Software Update.
Apple has also listed the audio and video formats supported by the new QuickTime X, as well as the third-party websites which provide additional codecs that are not natively supported, such as DivX and Windows Media.
