Adobe opens iPhone to Flash developers

Following our story yesterday of Adobe's Flash player coming to smartphones, the company has announced that Flash Professional CS5 will include the ability to export for iPhones and iPod touches.
At the company's worldwide developer conference in Los Angeles, it gave a sneak peek of CS5 and showed how Flash can be used to export app for the iPhone and iPod touch that meet Apple's strict requirements. This is made as easy as possible as the same source code can be used as for desktop Flash applications and games.
Adobe also demonstrated several iPhone apps built using a beta version of Flash CS5 at the conference. It announced that it has submitted apps to the App Store including a version of Acrobat Connect Pro, the company's web conferencing software.
Flash Player 10.1 makes playback consistent across devices so - in theory - apps should look the same regardless of which smartphone you're using. The new player is expected to be made available for Android, Symbian, Blackberry, Palm webOS and Windows Mobile.
Frustratingly, there's little chance of a version of iPhone OS, which would allow flash-based websites to be viewed in Safari Mobile, as Apple still believes that Flash is too unstable and resource heavy. Instead, developers will have to content themselves with making iPhone apps using the forthcoming CS5 suite.
