Camino 2 makes its debut
Posted on 19 Nov 2009 at 10:54
Camino, the longest-surviving mainstream web browser for OS X, has reached version 2, with a list of new features that again make it a serious alternative to the dominant Safari and Firefox.
Among those new features are a Tab Overview, which displays thumbnails of all your open tabs in a single window, and up-to-date security features including support for Google Safe Browsing—the same mechanism that Safari uses to warn of potentially fraudulent websites.
Accessibility is improved with full content zoom and better support for full keyboard access. Other changes include enhancements to tabbed browsing, AppleScript and “annoyance blocking”. Growl notification support has also been added.
Camino is an open source browser based on the same Gecko engine that underpins Firefox—which means the same support for web standards and technologies—but is built entirely in Cocoa, the Mac’s native programming language.
Camino 2.0 is a free download from caminobrowser.org.
