Microsoft sued over memory cards

A UK manufacturer of Xbox 360 memory cards is suing Microsoft after a recent console update stopped its product from working.

Datel believes that Microsoft is acting unlawfully by blocking its Max Memory card, which lets users use MicroSD memory cards as storage.

"Microsoft has taken steps to render inoperable the competing Datel memory card for no visible purpose other than to have that market entirely to themselves," said Marty Glick, director of Howard Rice Memerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, the law firm appointed by Datel.

Microsoft claims to block "unauthorised" memory cards from being used with its console, although it has never released details of what constitutes an unauthorised card. Datel is now seeking unspecified damages and wants Microsoft to lift the ban on its products.
