The great thing about net-based designs, though, is that you can always print them on a bit of paper and try for yourself. Equally, you can soon pull other people's apart and see how they work (keeping an eye out for copyright, registered design and patent notices). A combination of reverse engineering, imagination, Pritt stick and FoldUP!3D should be enough to have you designing your own cartons within hours.

FoldUP!3D is realistically priced for a niche professional tool, and nowhere near as fiddly as you might expect. Even if you only occasionally do packaging, it's a handy addition to your graphic design toolbox.
