Focus multimedia Excelling at spelling review
This program is refreshingly honest and doesn't try to hide its goal of expanding vocabulary and achieving accurate spelling.
Although the box states Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 (ages five to 13) it actually goes beyond this. The program has 10 levels of increasing difficulty, and a list of 'My Worst Words' gives the pupil plenty of practice in problem areas. The program's database contains over 3,500 words, and you can add more, although you'll need a microphone to add the pronunciation and verbal clues.
Activities include Spelling, where you hear a word and its meaning and type letters into the boxes, crosswords, anagrams, a version of hangman and Wordmaker, where a word is displayed and you score points for making as many other words as possible from its letters. A Progress Chart, Parents' Guide and Teacher Mode round off this polished software, which is suitable for the classroom and the home.
