Net Nanny 5.1.2 review
Verdict:
Not a bad internet filtering application, but it's not a particularly secure one.

Our Rating
If CyberPatrol didn't exist, then on the surface, at least, Net Nanny might be considered a good buy.
It has many of the same advanced monitoring, blocking and reporting capabilities, supports the creation of multiple profiles and has extensive time-management controls. Indeed, some parts of it are even better; like the Activity Consequences controls, whereby individual rules and/or warning messages can be applied to specific actions.
However, the overall experience is disappointing. While it's straightforward to configure and use, its look and feel just isn't as slick as CyberPatrol. More concerning is the fact that we found it all too easy to detach Net Nanny's ball and chain, using a couple of simple tricks - the like of which many children would likely master with a quick web search.
