Nintendo DS Lite review
Nintendo's DS console went on sale in 2004. Its touch-screen controls and great games made it a huge success, but it will never win any prizes for good looks. The DS Lite is the same console, packed into a far smaller, smarter and shinier shell.
The DS Lite is small enough to fit easily into a pocket and is available in two colours: the iPod-like white shown here, and a smart shiny black. The screens are brighter than those of the original DS, but you can turn down the brightness if you want to conserve battery life. As with the original console, you can play wirelessly against other DS owners.
The DS Lite's main strength is its selection of games. As well as classic Nintendo franchises such as Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Brothers, the DS catalogue includes the bizarrely addictive courtroom drama Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and the winsomely fluffy Nintendogs puppy simulator.
The DS Lite is by far the best way to play games on the go.
