Our Rating
Sigma's attractively priced flashgun has a zoom for matching lens focal lengths, a powerful flash guide number of 53m, can tilt upwards by 90 degrees and rotate by 270 degrees.
Performance is excellent. We measured an average of 2.85 seconds between full-power flashes on a fresh set of batteries and a 2fps continuous speed at quarter power.
We tested the Nikon version, but it's also available for Canon, Sony, Pentax and Sigma cameras. One unusual feature is the ability to slave to any other flash, including a camera's built-in flash. However, this mode requires a camera where TTL flash metering can be switched off, or the flashgun will synchronise with the pre-flash and miss the shot. The Canon model requires two EF 530 DG Supers in order for one to be used as a wireless slave.
Sadly, this flashgun let itself down a little by occasionally misjudging settings and producing under- or, more often, over-exposed shots. It's a fast flash, but one that's too unreliable to recommend wholeheartedly.
