Our Rating
This flashgun has a 14-105mm zoom range, and tilts and rotates to bounce light off walls and the ceiling, avoiding harsh reflections and shadows. It can operate as a wireless slave, but only in conjunction with a Canon master unit.
Support for Canon's E-TTL II flash metering system means settings are automatically synchronised with an EOS camera, while the built-in controls provide easy access to flash exposure compensation and rear curtain settings. In tests, it produced superb exposures on automatic settings. The flash power was automatically adjusted to compensate for changes to aperture, ISO speed, zoom and flash orientation, and in an average-sized room it only produced poor exposures when using very small apertures. Performance was a little behind the Sigma flashgun, though, firing every three seconds at full power and every second at quarter power.
Canon's Speedlite is more expensive than Sigma's flashgun, but its superior exposures make it a better buy for Canon cameras.
