EZY Technologies may not spring to mind when you think about network attached storage (Nas), but it's aiming to change that with its MyXerver MX3600 range.

These Nas devices come in 500GB and 1TB capacities and in three colours; Ivory White, Ebony Black, and Slate Grey. We tested a 1TB white model.

It's about the same size and shape as a Mac mini, and its sleek plastic case has no screws or anything else that might spoil the clean lines. The MX3600 doesn't have a fan, either, which means it's very quiet. It's also devoid of the usual range of status lights, having only one blue light that flashes as it boots and remains lit while it's in use.

EZY Technologies certainly hasn't skimped on the important stuff. The MX3600 has a UPnP server, iTunes server, MP3 broadcast, print server, and a USB port to attach an additional hard drive or USB flash drive. It can also download files from BitTorrent directly.

In use, we initially struggled with MyXerver. Following the setup instructions in the manual proved fruitless and the only way we could access the configuration web page on the server was to guess the IP address that had been allocated to it by our router. However, once we were able to access the configuration settings things improved. The layout of these pages is far from the best we've seen, and the manual not brilliant. But we were at least able to set up users and groups and enable the various features.

MyXerver has two things going for it, over and above its looks: it has a good range of features, and is one of the cheapest Nas boxes we've seen. If those are important to you, it's well worth considering.
