Verbatim's 500GB golden hard disk

Storage company Verbatim is marking the 40th anniversary of its foundation with the release of a golden 500GB portable USB hard disk, the Portable Hard Drive Anniversary Edition.
The 500GB bus-powered USB portable disk looks almost identical to the standard edition, but the plastic chassis has a gold coloured coating and it comes with Verbatim's Sync and Dmailer backup software instead of Ahead's Nero BackItUp Essentials. We hope this model improves on the cheap, plasticky build of the standard version.
Verbatim isn't the first hard disk manufacturer to release a golden hard disk - LaCie released a desktop Golden Disk back in the autumn of 2007. Although the Golden Disk is a desktop rather than a portable disk, it looks far sleeker and more attractive than Verbatim's chunky disk.
The Anniversary Edition will be available shortly at a price of around £80 which is in line with what we'd expect to pay for a 500GB portable USB disk.
