Verizon partnering with Google for tablet

The rumour that Google itself is looking to take the iPad head-on with an Android-based tablet of its own appears to have been confirmed by US mobile carrier AT&T.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal this week, Verizon Wireless's chief executive officer Lowell McAdam stated unequivocally that "we [Verizon] are working on tablets together [with Google], for example. We're looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience."
While there are already slate-form-factor devices in the market which use Google's Linux-based Android platform - originally developed for smartphones - as their operating system, including the diminutive 7in Archos Home Tablet, Verizon's mention of a close working relationship with Google suggests a device which comes with the search giant's blessings much as the Nexus One is Google's official Android smartphone.
The timing of the announcement is interesting, coming just a few weeks after the two companies decided not to launch Google's flagship Nexus One on the Verizon network, with the mobile carrier instead pushing its customers towards the HTC Droid Incredible.
Sadly, while the two companies might be cosying up in the tablet front, their plans don't extend to any visible products as yet - nor an indication of a likely launch date, specifications, or pricing.
