Dell Streak demoed, due next month
Posted on 14 May 2010 at 10:14
Dell's up-coming Mobile Internet Device, the 5in Android-based Streak, got its first full public outing yesterday as chief executive officer Michael Dell took to the stage at the Citrix Synergy conference.
As reported by eWeek, visitors to the conference were treated to a diversion from the mainstream topic at hand - the use of Citrix virtualistation technology on Dell hardware platforms - when Michael Dell pulled a fully-complete version of the Streak from his pocket and proceeded to spend a minute extolling the device's virtues.
While prototypes of the device have been floating around for a while - with tech blog Engadget being one of the first to post a hands-on experience back in February - this demo represents the first time fully complete hardware has been seen in the wild, and shows how close Dell is to releasing the Android-based device.
Indeed, Dell confirmed its imminence to the crowd at Citrix Synergy, stating that the Streak - which he excused plugging by demonstrating the Citrix Receiver Android application at the same time - is due to launch across Europe as early as next month in partnership with O2 Telefonica, while the US will be waiting until "later this summer" for the Streak to make an appearance in partnership with AT&T.
So far both O2 and Dell have kept quiet on a precise release date and expected pricing.
