Apple has confirmed rumours that it will produce a 128GB iPad 4, confirming the new model will go on sale on the 5th of February

Apple has officially confirmed that a 128GB version of its flagship iPad 4 is in the works, doubling the maximum capacity of its most popular tablet.

The new 128GB model is otherwise unchanged from its smaller brethren, with an A6X dual-core processor, 9.7in Retina display with a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution, a 5-megapixel rear camera that can capture 1080p video and a front-facing 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera.

Apple’s senior VP Phil Schiller said that “With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and every day they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs.”

“With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”

Available as either a Wi-Fi only model or with integrated LTE mobile broadband, the new iPad is one one of a small selection of tablets that are compatible with Everything Everywhere’s 4G mobile network. This latest version could effectively replace a laptop or PC when on the move, with enough room for even the largest files.

Aimed at business users and heavy content creators, the new 128GB iPad will set you back a significant chunk of change – expect to pay £639 for a Wi-Fi model or £739 for a Wi-FI and Cellular tablet when they go on sale on the 5th of February.
