Roku now supports custom themes to add colour to your home screen

Themes category lets you customise your home screen with Star Trek amd Adventure Time themes

Roku has just this week rolled out an update to all of its streaming devices with its ‘Roku Search’ and ‘Roku Feed’ features. While the new functionality is certainly useful, the search in particular is one we’ve been crying out for – the Roku home screen has remained distinctly purple by default, matching the company’s colours. While you can change the colour scheme from the settings menu it’s still a little plain.

For those of you looking to add a bit of variety and flare to your Roku device, Roku now has a ‘Themes’ category in its store, allowing you to plaster your home screen with everything from Star Trek to Adventure Time to Fast & Furious-related themes. There’s even a Big Lebowski theme for dudes who abide. There are currently 10 different themes to choose from with more set to be added in the future based on your favourite movies and television shows.

These themes don’t come for free, however, and will cost between £0.69 to £1.99. The new themes are available across all of Roku’s devices including the Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick so be sure to check out the store if you’re interested in a new lick of paint.

The previous Roku system software update allows you to search for new content based on actors and directors. At present Roku Search only plugs into Netflix, Snagfilms and Popcornflix, but integration into more channels is expected to be added. Importantly, Roku Search will let you search the Channel Store for new channels to add, which saves you having to scroll through all of the categories.

The Roku Feed feature lets you subscribe to movies you’re interested in and then updates are presented in a timeline-like interface. This will let you know important changes such as when the movie becomes available to stream from different Roku channels as well as any price drops if it’s available to rent.
