Philips announces new 6000, 5000 and 4000 series TV ranges

Budget TVs and feature-packed smart TVs on the way in the second quarter of 2014

A raft of new Philips TVs are on the way in 2014 ranging in size from 20in to 55in with smart and 3D features also included.

The new Philips 6000 range is made up of six full HD TVs – the 6100, 6300, 6400, 6500, 6600 and 6700. From the 6400 series upwards the TVs can adjust LED brightness to increase contrast. Known as Micro Dimming Pro, it takes information from ambient light and reacts accordingly to change picture contrast.

The 6300, 6500, 6600 and 6700 models feature Philips’ Ambilight backlights, which create a glow of light around the edge of the set. The Ambilight feature now also has a gaming mode and an app for creating the right mood for different types of programme.

The 6000 series supports Philips TV Remote app, Wi-Fi Miracast and SimplyShare, a feature that allows wireless streaming from phones and tablets. The smart TVs also include 3D and will be available in the second quarter of 2014, with prices yet to be announced.

A new range of less feature-packed Philips TVs has also been announced. The 4000 and 5000 series Philips TV series ranges in size from 20″ to 50″, with some sets full HD and some 1280×720.

All models come with USB ports for playing video stored on USB drives and hard disks and can also stream via DLNA. The Philips 4500, 5500, 5600 and 5700 all have smart TV features including video on demand and a range of catch-up TV apps. Once again the release date is set for the second quarter of 2014 with prices yet to be announced.

All the Philips TVs are being made by TP Vision, a joint partnership between Philips and Hong Kong based TPV Technology. TP Vision is 70 per cent owned by TPV and 30 per cent owned by Philips.
