The British Museum channel launches on BT Vision, bringing on-demand content

The British Museum and BT have announced a partnership to bring on-demand content through the BT Vision streaming service.

Launching as a dedicated channel on BT Vision and available free of charge to all customers, the British Museum Channel shows documentaries and films from the archives as well as new content linked to current exhibitions. Viewers will also be able to access lectures and other video content.

It's not the first time the British Museum has looked at streaming video: video content is already uploaded to its website and YouTube. It is, however, the first time the Museum has linked with a commercial broadcast company.

"This is a really exciting collaboration. BT Vision is a wonderful way to widen access to some fascinating documentaries from the British Museum," Joanna Mackle, director of public engagement at the British Museum, said of the partnership. "We are keen to share our content freely and widely to allow as many people as possible access to the collections and the wonderful stories it tells. Viewers will be able to stay up to the minute with current programmes by watching lectures and films linked to our popular exhibitions."

The service has launched now, with all BT Vision users able to access the British Museum channel through their set-top box menus.
