Samsung deploys 3D across LED, LCD and Plasma TV ranges

CES 2010: We've seen virtually every television manufacturer talk about how important 3D will be in the future and, unlike other manufacturers who have incorporated 3D into one or two lines, Samsung has gone after 3D in a big way with a slew of 3D-ready panels in all three of its product lines: LED, LCD and Plasma.
This focus continues through into its Blu-ray players and home theatre systems, building a complete 3D ecosystem. What's more, the whole range of products will be compatible with Sky's soon-to-be-released 3D TV service in the UK.
Samsung's flagship 9000, 8000 and 7000 ranges of LED HDTVs were the highlight, with a combination of stunning design, vivid colours and incredible black levels.
Samsung didn't delve into the technology behind its LED TVs, but they do use local dimming LED backlight technology like most of the firm's competitors. The 9000 series, in particular, looked exceptionally good with their distinctive metallic bezels and, at just 1.4 inches at its thickest point, they're ideal for wall mounting.
The TV's headline features don't stop there though, as there are three unique features. The 9000 series models also include a proximity sensor that detects when the user is close to the set and automatically opens the TV's menu controls, as well as a remote control with a touchscreen display. This is not only used to show customised context-sensitive menus, but you can also stream live TV to it while watching a Blu-ray movie on the big screen.
Finally, Samsung has built these capabilities into its Omnia II and future smartphones, enabling you to control your TV using with your Samsung mobile phone. The interface on the phones looks almost exactly same as the remote control's interface, but you're less likely to lose your phone.
On the whole, we're still not convinced about 3D in the living room, but Samsung's new TVs do look very impressive indeed.
