Sharp details Aquos Quad Pixel TV roll out plans
Posted on 10 Mar 2010 at 14:15
Sharp announced its plans for rolling out the new Aquos Quad Pixel LCD TVs in the UK at an event in Central London last night.
The new range of TVs adds yellow to the traditional three-colour RGB TVs - hence the Quad Pixel name - to deliver much more vibrant colours than conventional TVs.
Each model has a 1080p resolution and incorporates Sharp's UltraBrilliant Edge-lit panel technology, which Sharp says "has been designed to deliver incredible contrast" to improve the perception of depth and clarity.
All of the models have a built-in Freeview HD tuner, meaning you can watch all HD channels without the need for an additional set top box. In addition to this, the flagship LC-LE921E series includes E-motion 200 technology, which allows fast moving images "to retain clarity and definition."
Sharp has responded to feedback from consumers, who said they wanted thinner TVs. The new Aquos LE921 and LE821 series' are just 39mm deep and the panel's glass is flush with the border around the TV on all models. We were impressed with the new TVs' design.
The firm says that the new range has "cutting-edge energy saving technology" which, combined with the LED backlighting technology, "reduces the energy needed to produce the on screen image".
Sharp said that the new TVs will start at around £1,200 inc VAT and will go up from there. That's quite a lot but, as the Sharp representative we spoke with pointed out, the colours are unlike anything you'll see on competing TVs. We'll bring you reviews of the new Sharp Aquos TVs as soon as they're available.
