If you've been holding out for Sony to release its 3D TVs, you're going to have to wait a little longer as the electronics giant as said that its televisions won't hit shops until June. There's no actual date set in the month for the launch.
In June, Sony will release two models in the Bravia HX803 range: the 40in KDL-40HX803and the 46in KDL-46HX803 model. Both with have Freeview HD tuners, 200Hz panels and LED backlighting (edge lit, rather than backlit with local dimming), and will be capable of producing a 3D 1080p image.
Along with other manufacturers, Sony has opted for active shutter glasses to view the 3D image. They should produce a sharper, clearer picture than passive glasses. The big downside, of course, is that extra glasses will cost around £100.
Sony has also announced that it will release a firmware update for its PS3 console to coincide with the UK launch of its new TVs. This will let you play the latest 3D games, including Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet. 3D Blu-ray movies will be supported latter in the year with a second firmware update.
