Our Rating
LaCie's CurrenKey has a distinctive appearance, and is small enough to fit in the coin pocket of a pair of jeans.
Clasping one side of the drive and twisting it reveals the pop-out USB connector. Unfortunately, its shape blocks other USB ports, which is annoying, and no extension cable is included.
We were also unimpressed with its inconsistent performance in our file-transfer tests. It was capable of reading files at an impressive rate of around 22MB/s for both large and small files, but was much slower at writing them, and managed only 6MB/s for large files and 3MB/s for small ones.
We had high hopes that the CurrenKey would liven up the dull world of USB flash drives, but its inconsistent performance and awkward shape means it's an example of form over function. Kingston's DataTraveler 150 32GB has four times the storage and costs less per gigabyte.
