NetNewsWire completes Google Reader move
Posted on 24 Sep 2009 at 06:52
Newsgator has shipped the finished version of NetNewsWire 3.2, which together with the release of a new client for iPhone and iPod touch marks the end of the popular RSS reader’s transition to Google Reader.
From 28 September, NetNewsWire will no longer sync with the web and between Macs using Newsgator Online, switching instead to Google Reader. If you haven’t yet switched over, instructions can be found at the bottom of this page.
The finished desktop application is largely unchanged from previous 3.x releases, save the addition of a small, but frankly distracting, advertising box in the bottom left-hand corner which can be removed by paying £6.44 for a serial number. Users who have serial numbers from the days when NetNewsWire was not free software, will find that their old serials will not work. That is likely to annoy many, especially those who paid in the weeks running up to the surprise announcement in January 2008 that the licence fee was being dropped.
NetNewsWire 3.2 is available at newsgator.com/individuals.
For iPhone and iPod touch users, NetNewsWire is available as a free, ad-supported client or as a £1.19 ad-free, Premium version.
