If your PC is slow to boot, slow to run and often freezes for no apparent reason, it needs a good cleanout.

There are probably lots of redundant shortcuts, Registry entries, temporary files and other junk clogging up your hard disk and slowing down your PC. But how can you track down all these odd bits of data?

One-Click CleanUp is a simple program that searches your hard disk and finds all the clutter for you. It consists of five separate modules. The first of these cleans up old shortcuts, the second clears Internet traces, the third redundant Registry entries.

The fourth module is an uninstaller that removes programs that can't be shifted either by using the software's own uninstaller or the Add or Remove Programs option in Windows' Control Panel. The fifth module, WinSmart Mover, doesn't clean anything - it lets you move program folders. The idea is that if your main hard disk is full, you can move program folders to another drive - One-Click then updates all that program's Registry entries and shortcuts so that they point to the new location.

In practice, WinSmart Mover proved a bit hit and miss. Some programs worked fine after being moved, others didn't work at all. The rest of the program's modules worked well. Our Internet traces, including difficult-to-shift Index.dat files, were wiped clean. The Registry cleaner found lots of traces of the programs we've tested this month, and removed them, likewise the shortcut remover.

One-Click CleanUp is easy to use. Its main screen is just a box with seven buttons - one for each module - a One-Click option to run all the modules, and an Undo option.

The Undo function lists all the changes you've made recently and offers you the chance to, well... undo them. We tried it on all the modules: it worked fine, even moving large programs such as image editors back to their original location with no loss of function or stability.

One-Click cleanup is a relatively simple PC maintenance utility, but it still does everything you need to keep your PC running smoothly. Better still, at just £24, it's a great deal.
