Google's video-sharing arm YouTube has announced plans to open a 'creator space' in London which will provide budding videographers with the equipment they need.

Acquired by Google back in 2006, YouTube has become one of the most popular sites for video streaming and has entered into partnership with companies to provide original programming, catch-up TV services and even full film rentals. Recent additions to its feature set include support for high-definition video playback and even 3D content - along with support in Smart TVs, set-top boxes and games consoles.

Now, it's looking to help budding filmmakers get started by offering a space with the latest equipment for free use. "We're delighted to announce that in the next few weeks we’ll be opening the doors to our new creator space, housed in the offices of Google London's Soho office,' Google's Sara Mormino, director of YouTube content operations and the YouTube Next Lab, in a statement regarding the move. "Our partners from all over Europe, Middle East and Africa will be able to book time in the space to create and collaborate with other creators, learn new techniques, as well as gaining access to state-of-the-art audio visual equipment, to help them generate great new content for their channels."

The studio environment will include the latest equipment, Mormino claimed, with digital SLR and high-definition cinema cameras, two studios including a green screen, and editing suites included in the deal. The creator space itself will be overseen by the YouTube Next Lab, a team of Googlers focused on accelerating the site's growth still further.

Sadly, the creator space won't be open to all: in order to book time, videographers need to be YouTube partners - membership of which indicates existing success at building a YouTube channel and maintaining its popularity.

A firm opening date has yet to be confirmed for the YouTube creator space.
