Sitecom offers dual-band routers

Networking specialist Sitecom has announced the launch of its first 802.11n wireless router to support dual-frequency use.
The WL300 series of routers allow speeds of up to 300Mb/s via the latest 802.11n WiFi standard, and they have a neat trick up their sleeve for increasing the throughput and range - using both frequencies available as part of the standard simultaneously.
By operating in both the 2.4GHz and the less common 5GHz bands, the new routers promise increased wireless speeds, fewer dropouts through congestion and noise, and increased range.
In order to maximise the advantage, Sitecom has equipped with router with the ability to differentiate the type of traffic you're routing: if you're sending non time-critical traffic such as web browsing, it'll go over the 2.4GHz band - leaving the less congested 5GHz band free for time-critical traffic such as gaming, media streaming, and Voice-over-IP applications like Skype.
The company's marketing and communications manager Virginia Yanquilevich claims that the use of both bands allows "optimal wireless performance . . . . without audio or video interference."
In keeping with the company's existing wireless products, the N300 range supports one-button setup - with a short press creating a 2.4GHz connection and a long press creating a 5GHz connection - and comes with WPA2 security enabled out of the box. So far, the range includes the WL-350 Wireless Media Router 300N and the WL-329 Concurrent Dual-band Router, retailing at around £140 and £80 respectively.
