We love the Sonos Roam, and we gave it five stars in our recent review. It also went on to scoop Bluetooth Speaker of the Year at our Tech Products of the Year Awards in October.

The speaker is easy to use once you’ve completed a somewhat fiddly initial setup, connects to your home Wi-Fi and uses the Sonos app to integrate with all the major music streaming services. There’s also support for Spotify Connect and Apple Airplay 2 meaning you’re covered for pretty much any streaming eventuality.

A particularly useful feature is weatherproofing – as an IP67 certified speaker, the Roam can be submerged in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes. Ten-hour battery life is reasonable for a speaker of the Roam’s size and the Roam supports both USB-C and Qi charging, which is a bonus.

Sound quality is central to the success of any speaker and in that department, the Sonos Roam definitely delivers. A fantastic feature is the Sonos Auto Trueplay EQ tuning, which scans the speaker’s surroundings then tweaks the EQ to best suit the environment – that means less bass if the speaker’s sitting on a bookshelf, or more deep booms when you’re using the Roam outdoors.
