Few things can help you get through your day-to-day tasks, improve your leisure time and allow you to tackle more in-depth creative projects like picking up a speedy, svelte new laptop. However, one reason that we aren’t going around upgrading our set-ups willy-nilly is that laptops tend to come with a fairly hefty price tag. That’s why we generally advise that you wait for a sales period like Black Friday and secure one for a bargain price.
Our short guide below will answer any questions you might have about both Black Friday discounts and buying yourself a new laptop. We’ll also be recommending some of our favourite laptops, should you want to keep an eye on them in advance of the sales bonanza.

When is Black Friday?
This year, Black Friday was on 25 November. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll have to buy on the day to snag some great savings. Having grown into a veritable season of deals and discounts, there is always a slew of tempting Black Friday offers vying to grab your attention in advance of the day itself and following it. How much could I save on a laptop this Black Friday?
Black Friday has truly earned its reputation as the deals event of the year, with items in a huge range of categories – including laptops – regularly hitting their lowest prices ever for the big day. Based on previous experience, we expect to see high quality brands shaving up to hundreds of pounds off their device’s price tags.
While securing a brand new, top-of-the-range model at a decent discount is all well and good, it isn’t necessarily even the best way to save. Laptop technology has reached a steady, high watermark over the past few years, meaning that securing a highly functional machine for cheap has become easier than ever. Laptops from previous generations, or models that have been out for a year or more, will often see even larger reductions than newer models – with discounts of up to 50% not being unheard of – while still being powerful and fast enough to be worth considering.
One thing to note when searching for a significant discount is that brands and sellers don’t always advertise the prices of their machines in the most straightforward way. While you may think a device’s RRP is the price that it usually sells at, this isn’t always the case. Most devices see regular sales and price changes throughout the months and often spend most of the year somewhere below their RRP. While the RRP is still a handy indicator of a device’s general value, looking at how much money has been taken off a device’s average price can be a better indicator of whether or not a noteworthy deal is on offer. Of course, it isn’t easy for regular consumers to keep up with these myriad price shifts, but with our focus on it daily, and plenty of price tracking software on hand, we’re happy to take the burden off you and make sure to only present you deals that are actually solid.
What were last year’s discounts like?
One way to get a sense of what upcoming deals might look like is to take a look at what was on offer for last year’s Black Friday. The Razer Book 13, for example, a top drawer ultraportable laptop, saw a gigantic reduction, with over £500 being taken off its price in one of the event’s best deals. Models from other brands which saw several hundreds of pounds fall off their price included laptops from powerhouses such as Dell, Huawei and Microsoft. Notably, there were no significant deals worth covering on any of the Macbook range, so if you’re holding out for a deal on an Apple laptop, you may end up disappointed. That said, if any worthy Macbook offers do emerge this year, then they’ll be likely to get snapped up fast, so be sure to keep an eye on our coverage.
What’s the best Laptop to buy this Black Friday?
While a Black Friday deal is almost reason enough alone to plump for a certain laptop, an attractive discount won’t make a sub-par machine work any better. Staking out one or more high-quality laptops and waiting for their price to drop is generally a better idea. To give you a headstart, we’ve listed some of favourite deals below:
The best laptop deals in the Black Friday sales
1. Asus VivoBook 15 OLED (was £849, now £469)
This 15.6in laptop looks a great deal at the pre-discount price of £849 but at £469 it’s a positive steal. It has a Full HD OLED display, a VERY generous 16GB of RAM and and a 512GB SSD plus an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU. That’s a simply incredible specification for £469.
2. Huawei MateBook E (was £812 on average, now £600)
If you’ve always wanted a Surface Pro but could never justify paying for it, the Huawei MateBook E is here to save your bank balance. We described it as the “Best Windows tablet” in our review at its original RRP and it’s now on offer at £600. This gets you the tablet with a 2,560 x 1,600 OLED display, a Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD and includes the keyboard case in the box as well. It’s a fantastic Black Friday deal.
3. Honor MagicBook 15 (was £650, now £400)
CYBER MONDAY DEAL: Honor laptops offer pretty solid value for money at their normal prices but on Black Friday, the prices get even cheaper. This model has a 15.6in display, an AMD Ryzen 5500U CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD and it’s only £400, reduced a further £50 from the Black Friday price.
4. Samsung Galaxy Book2 360 (was £815 on average, now £599)
This isn’t the Pro version of Samsung’s sleek 2-in-1 laptop range but it’s still slim and light and comes with a pretty impressive specification for the money: a 13.3in AMOLED Full HD touchscreen, 12th gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Note that, unlike the Pro range, this does not come with a stylus in the box.
5. Honor MagicBook 16 (was £799 on average, now £550)
This Honor MagicBook 16 deal is a fantastic bargain. It has a big 16in screen, £200 off the normal price and Honor is also applying an extra £50 disount for all orders over £500 on its website. It comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.
6. Huawei MateBook D 15 (2021) (was £705 on average, now £580)
The Huawei website is always a great place to start when you’re looking for Black Friday deals and this year is no exception. The best deal so far is on the MateBook D15, an aluminium-clad 15-incher with a Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Also includes a free backpack worth £130.

7. M2 Apple MacBook Air (2022) (was £1,169 now £1,109)
It’s not a giant discount, but any time you can save money on a laptop this good it’s worth shouting about. For £1,119, you’ll get a laptop with a top-notch 13.6in Liquid Retina display, an M2 processor, 8GB RAM and a 256 SSD. Keep in mind that this price point is the cheapest it’s ever been and there’s no saying for how long you’ll be able to grab one.
8. Lenovo Legion 5i 15 (was £1,450, now £950)
We loved Lenovo’s Legion 5 when we reviewed it in 2021 and this 2022 model should be even better. It has a 12th gen Core i5-12500H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, which should be all you need to play the latest games. To top it all off, it also has a 165Hz IPS display.
10. LG Gram 16 (was £1,550, now £1,152)
Big screen laptops don’t get much lighter than this. It tips the scales at a mere 1.2kg, the same weight as some 13in machines yet the display measures 16in across the diagonal. It’s a lovely machine – not a powerhouse but still speedy enough for most jobs – and the price is now down to a tempting £1,153.
11. LG Gram 17 (was £1,457, now £1,249)
The LG Gram 17 joins the Gram 16, on special offer this Black Friday and it’s just as impressive a machine as its (slightly) smaller sibling. For a large laptop it weighs an incredibly light 1.28kg, and this model comes with a decent specification as well: a 12th gen Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB SSD.
12. Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (was £999 now £749)
The arrival of Black Friday has seen a number of configurations of the Surface Laptop 4 discounted at John Lewis. This particular model – packing an AMD Ryzen 5 Processor, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD – has seen a hefty £245 price reduction that’s well worth jumping on.
13. Huawei MateBook X Pro (was £1,800, now £1,500)
The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a design classic. It’s slim, light and desirable and it no longer has that horrid webcam embedded in the keyboard – it’s now in the bezel above the screen. This updated 2022 model comes with an Intel 12th Gen Core i7 CPU, a 90Hz LTPS 3,120 x 1,080 3:2 aspect ratio display, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.
14. Huawei MateBook 14s (was £1,300, now £1,100)
The Huawei MateBook 14s is a lovely laptop – compact, well built and lovely to use with decent battery life and a great 2.5K screen – and the 2022 model has now been reduced in price from the usual £1,300 to £1,100.
15. Microsoft Surface Go 3 (was £536 on average, now £449)
CYBER MONDAY PRICE REDUCTION: This isn’t a huge reduction and the deal doesn’t include the keyboard cover but this discount is on the Core i3 model, which is the only one we’d recommend. The others are too weedy to be worth the money. Comes with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD.
16. ASUS Zenbook 14 UX3402ZA (was £1,299, now £999)
A great deal on a slim and stylish laptop that still manages to include a 12th gen Intel Core i7 Processor and a 2.8K OLED touchscreen. It’s powerful, portable, and now only £999.
17. Acer Predator Helios 300 (was £1,500, now £1,099)
This is probably the best Black Friday deal we’ve seen on a gaming laptop so far, with a £400 reduction on this Acer gaming machine. It comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11800H, 16GB of RAM and a huge 1TB SSD. That’s fantastic value at £1,099.
18. Huawei Matebook 16 (was £1,000, now £680)
The Huawei Matebook 16 shares its solid build quality with the rest of the Huawei laptop range. It’s built entirely from aluminium and comes with a decent specification considering the price: an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, coupled with a 16in, 2.5K, 300nit display.
19. ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 (was £3,300 now £2,100)
For a truly top-notch gaming experience, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S17 is a superb choice. It has an Intel Core i7-11800H 2.3 GHz processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, 16GB RAM and a 2TB SSD. All of that usually comes with a premium price tag, but right now, you can save an astonishing £1,200 off the RRP and bag this laptop for just £2,100.
20. HP Pavilion 14-ec0017na (was £630, now £400)
This is a very good price for a 14in laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 5500U CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.
21. HP 14s-fq1012na (was £430, now £250)
A solid-looking Windows 11 (Home in S mode) laptop with a decent level of specification for only £260. Comes with a 14in Full HD display, an AMD Ryzen 3 5300U CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.
22. HP Chromebook x360 14b-cb0002na (was £400, now £330)
A good laptop doesn’t have to be a Windows machine or a MacBook. Chromebooks are often nippier, easier to use and better value for money and this 2-in-1 from HP is a case in point.
23. Razer Blade 15 Base (was £1,871 on average, now £1,419)
Razer’s offerings are always well-made and sleeker than the average gaming laptop but they do usally cost more than their rivals. Here’s an opportunity to snap up the previous generation 15.6in Base model, which comes with an Intel Core i7-11800H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for significantly less than usual. Its QHD 165Hz display is a cracker, too.
24. Razer Blade Pro 17 (was £2,600, now £1,699)
Gaming laptops don’t get much more attractive and powerful than this 17in monster from Razer. It comes with an 11th gen Intel Core i7-11800H, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, plus an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU; with more than £400 off the average historical price it’s a fairly hefty bargain, too.
25. Huawei MateBook 14 AMD (2021) (was £1,000, now £600)
With an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U inside, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, the MateBook 14 is stacked with hardware and is on sale right now at the tempting price of only £600.
26. Huawei MateBook 16s (was £1,300, now £1,100)
This high-power laptop crams a stack of potent components and a brilliant screen into a slim, beautifully built chassis. It’s currently £200 off in the Black Friday sales and the price includes a free backpack worth £130.
27. Huawei MateBook D 14 (2021) (was £553 on average, now £450)
The price of the 2021 D 14 fluctuates quite a lot and this isn’t the lowest price we’ve ever seen it at. At Amazon it was £400 in the summer and it’s frequently discounted. However, if you grab this deal from the Huawei website you’ll get a free backpack worth £130.
28. Honor MagicBook X14 (was £650, now £400)
A solid laptop with an Intel Core 15, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, the Honor MagicBook X14 is currently on sale at a tempting £400, down from an RRP of £650.
29. HP Pavilion Plus 14-eh0501na (was £1,299, now £1,099)
The Pavilion Plus 14 is packed with impressive hardware in the form of an Intel Core i7 Processor, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. It’s also currently £200 off on Black Friday.
30. ASUS Vivobook Pro 16X N7600PC (was £1,399, now £999)
The highlight here is the impressive 16in OLED display, plus the ASUS Vivobook 16X also packs an Intel Core i7 Processor and a 512GB SSD into a stylish exterior. With Black Friday now in full swing, it’s available for just £999.
31. ACER Swift X (was £1,399, now £1,099)
Bag a laptop packed with enviable features, including a 2560 x 1600 16in display, a 1TB SSD and an Intel Core i7 Processor, all for £300 less than the RRP.
32. Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio (was £1,449, now £1,249)
Grab this innovative and versatile laptop for just £1,141, a new all-time low price on Amazon. That’s a discount of over £300 from the price when we reviewed it earlier this year.
33. Chuwi Herobook Pro (was £274, now £199)
Chuwi isn’t one of the first brands that springs to mind when you’re buying a laptop but its products are surprisingly good considering how cheap they are. This has a Full HD 14in display, 8GB of RAM and a proper 256GB SSD plus an Intel N4020 CPU. Not bad at all for £199.
34. Acer Aspire Vero (was £613 on average, now £499)
If you’re worried about the environmental impact buying another laptop has on the planet, the Vero is here to salve your concerns. For every 100 Veros sold, Acer has committed to planting a tree, and the laptop itself is made of partially recycled plastic. It’s a decent laptop as well – this is the Core i5 model with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD – and it has been reduced in price on Black Friday to £549.
35. Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (was £899, now £649)
You won’t be gaming at max settings with this budget gaming machine but the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti is good enough to game at low to medium settings at 1080p without too much trouble and the price is now very reasonable, too. Comes with a Ryzen 5 5800H CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, too, which adds up to a decent specification for the money.
36. HP Pavilion Aero 13-be0030na (was £800, now £600)
This lightweight 13.3in laptop comes with plenty of connectivity and an impressive specification for the money, including an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The display looks to be decent as well, with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, 75Hz refresh rate, 400cd/m2 brightness rating and 100% sRGB colour coverage.
37. ASUS VivoBook Pro 14 (was £1,000, now £600)
It can be quite difficult to know if a laptop deal is good or not but this one was obvious to us straightaway. Not only are you getting a laptop with a large 14in, 2,880 x 1,800 90Hz OLED display for only £600 but it’s also a pretty powerful one as well, with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU inside backed up by 8GB of RAM and a sizeable 512GB SSD.
The 15in model of this laptop is also on sale – at Amazon – with around £300 off the average price
