Now TV deal slashes Smart Box price in half
Half price on a Now TV Smart Box for instant streaming
Everywhere you look: streaming services. Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, even BritBox. One of the best of the bunch is Now TV, which gives UK viewers access to HBO’s plentiful offerings, everything from Game of Thrones to Succession and Watchmen.
If your TV isn’t ‘smart’, meaning it doesn’t have in-built access to these streaming apps – you’ll need a plug-in device to give it the capabilities. The Now TV Smart Box is a great example, granting access to Now TV as well as a range of third-party apps including Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
For the period around Black Friday, Currys is selling the Now TV Smart Box for around half price, cut down from £49 to £25. That also includes one-month passes for Sky Cinema, the Entertainment package and the Kids package, as well as a one-day Sports package pass.
The device promises voice search and “4K content”, which is somewhat misleading as: a) you’ll need a 4K TV to view the resolution in the first place, and b) Now TV streams at a maximum resolution of 720p. Only certain third-party apps will be available to watch in 4K, the small print clarifies.
That aside, the price of the box is good if you’re in the market for a way turn a ‘dumb’ TV into a streaming hub. After you’ve run through the trial passes for Now TV, you’ll need to spend £8.99 a month for the Entertainment pass, or £11.99 a month for Sky Cinema.
