They then defeated the Milwaukee Brewers and heavy-favourites Los Angeles Dodgers before sweeping the St Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series to make their first World Series in franchise history.
In comparison, the Astros finished their 2019 season with a 107-55 record, which was the best in the league. They then defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series. In the American League Championship Series that followed, they defeated one of the MLB’s most successful franchises, the New York Yankees, in six games as Jose Altuve sealed the series with a walk-off home run. This is the Houston Astros’ third World Series appearance and their second in three years, following their title win in 2017.
Pitching will play a vital role in the World Series, and it’s not surprising that both teams have some of the best pitchers in baseball.
