Seven new Apple MacBooks are on their way
A whopping seven new Apple model numbers have been registered with the Eurasian Economic Commission
It seems that a major Apple MacBook reveal is on the cards. According to MacRumors, no less than seven new model numbers were recently found on the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) website, each more confounding than the last.
First, a bit of context: registrations found on the EEC website usually herald the imminent arrival of new products. It’s a necessary step in the proceedings for any company looking to sell electronic devices in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
So you can be pretty darn sure that the registrations found by MacRumors mean we’re in for a treat from Apple. The best part is that passing a product through the EEC usually only comes a couple of months before an official announcement.
There are seven Apple model numbers, which all seem to refer to as-of-yet unannounced MacBooks. For what it’s worth, the numbers are A2141, A2147, A2158, A2159, A2179, A2182 and A2251.
At this time, it’s pretty hard to tell exactly what kind of Macbook we’re getting: the EEC registration document simply describes them as “portable/personal computers”. That said, it’s almost guaranteed that at least a few of those model numbers refer to spec variations, so don’t expect seven entirely new products.
MacRumors points out that the 12in MacBook hasn’t seen a major refresh since 2017 and that there’s every chance the recently updated MacBook Air will receive a specs bump. There are even reports of a 16in MacBook Pro on the horizon, but in truth, only time will tell; Apple has a habit of launching MacBooks in the autumn, so we’ll just have to wait.
These MacBooks will be running on macOS version 10.14, which is, of course, the most current software. That said, Apple has already revealed a few minor details about macOS 10.15, which is called “Catalina”. The new OS will primarily make it easier to port iOS apps to Mac and will – funnily enough – launch this autumn. There’s an off-chance that there’s some correlation to be found here, but we’re not making any assumptions just yet.
