iPhone 12 Black Friday contract: Enjoy LOADS of data at a good price

A whole lot of data for your cash

The iPhone 12 is brilliant. Brilliant, but pricey, so it’s understandable that you’d want to split the cost over the duration of a 24-month contract.

The trouble is that these are also on the expensive side, but this trio from Carphone Warehouse buck the trend by being quite reasonable – especially for the ridiculous amount of data you can chew through.

They’re all from ID Mobile and each offers unlimited call minutes and texts. The difference is cost (both upfront and monthly) and data.

The cheapest will give you 20GB per month for £39.99 per month with a £49.99 upfront fee, for a total of £1,009.75. The 50GB package will set you back £41.99 per month with an upfront fee of £29.99 for a total of £1,037.75. If you want unlimited data, you’re looking at £42.99 per month with £29.99 upfront, for a total of  £1,061.75.

Personally, I’d opt for unlimited data when you’re looking at £52 difference over two years – especially when 5G data can be eaten through quite quickly – but it’s your call.

The iPhone 12 is a fabulous phone, by the way. As well as introducing 5G for the first time, it blows all Android handsets out of the water in terms of benchmarks. It’s also the hardiest Apple handset ever, with Ceramic Shield offering four times’ more protection against drop damage than previous versions. Which is handy when you’re spending this much on one and are of a butterfingered disposition.

As our head of reviews Jonathan Bray wrote in his review: “It represents the accumulation of 13 years of development and it definitely shows.

“This is a very, very good phone. It may not be the pinnacle of what Apple offers – but it is better than the iPhone 11 and hits the sweet spot of size to features to value for iPhone fans. I expect it will be the most popular phone Apple sells this year and into next.”

For that you pay a premium – £799 SIM-free, no less. But if you want a contract with your handset, then an extra £262.85 for unlimited calls, texts and data seems pretty good to me. Especially when it’s spread over two years.
