As sun surely follows moon, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 is an inevitability. The latest Galaxy S series handsets – the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus and S20 Ultra – have long since launched, and now the hungry eyes of the consumer (that’s you and me) are trained on Samsung’s Next Big Thing. 

If you’re curious to know what to expect from the Galaxy Note 20, then you’ve come to the right place. As it stands, Samsung is gearing up to announce something big this August – we’re almost 100% certain it’s the Note 20, which means the release date is almost upon us. Leaks, as usual, are everywhere, so there’s plenty to tide us over while we wait.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 release date: When will it launch?

Samsung is predictably consistent when it comes to the release of its newest handsets. As the nights begin to draw in, Samsung usually hosts its big product reveal event – called “Galaxy Unpacked” – in August, with the last five generations of Notes making an appearance during that time.

This year is no exception. Samsung has already confirmed that it will be hosting an Unpacked event on 5 August 2020, and although the firm won’t explicitly tell us what to expect, I think we all know that the Note 20 series will make an appearance.

Indeed, a new trailer all but confirms that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Note 20 series on 5 August, alongside a new Galaxy watch, a pair of earbuds, a tablet and what looks like a foldable handset – possibly the Galaxy Fold 2.

How to watch Galaxy Unpacked

If you’re keen to tune into Samsung’s upcoming product launch event, you can do so via the Samsung website and Samsung US newsroom on 5 August at 3pm GMT.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 price: How much will it cost?

It’s too early to say how much the Galaxy Note 20 will cost, but previously Note launches do offer some form of indication. The Galaxy Note 10 started at £869 for the 256GB model and the Note 10 Plus was priced at a lofty £999.

If Samsung decides to follow a similar pricing structure with the Note 20, then we can expect it to cost close to four figures for the entry-level models, with the higher storage variants fetching an even higher price.

LATEST: Note 20 colours leak ahead of August launch

Roland Quandt has seemingly discovered the colours available for both the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. The Note 20 will launch in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Gray and Mystic Green, while the Note 20 Ultra launch in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black.

Incidentally, this lines up rather neatly with the below Tweet from Max Weinbach, who spotted the Note 20 Ultra in a lovely shade of copper on Samsung’s Russian website:

Aside from that striking new metallic gold colour, the leak also reveals the look of the rear camera array, which mimics the rectangular format of the S20 series. We can also see the power button, volume rocker and stylus, although none of these things are particularly exciting to behold.

The first two images depict the Galaxy Note 20, although it’s hard to spot any crucial differences between those pictures and the others. The common themes include a single centrally located selfie camera in a small hole-punch notch; a rectangular rear camera array housing three cameras; and a stylus slot that sits on the opposite side to the Galaxy Note 10 (as seen in the Jimmy is Promo image, which compares the Note 20 to the Note 10).

Roland Quandt has produced a hefty article detailing the exact specifications of the Galaxy Note 20, and another on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, both of which help fill in some gaps and clarify a few glaring contradictions. 

5G: You can apparently order the Galaxy Note 20 both with and without support for 5G, while the Note 20 Ultra is a 5G-native product. Presumably, this will affect the price of the phone.
 
Waterproofing: Both handsets are IP68 rated for dust- and water-resistance, meaning they can survive for up to 30 minutes in water up to 1.5m deep. The Note 20 Ultra also uses Gorilla Glass 7, making it the first smartphone to take advantage of the new ultra-strong material.
 
Project xCloud: Yes, you read that right. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has apparently been optimised for Microsoft’s new Xbox game streaming service, meaning owners of the Game Pass will be able to stream over 90 games straight to their phone.
