How to watch Fleabag in the UK, US and abroad

Fleabag has taken the world by storm – here’s how to watch Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s marvellous creation wherever you are

Fleabag careened onto our screens in mid-2016 to critical and popular acclaim; the beleaguered UK took no time at all to fall in love with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s hapless anti-heroine, the titular Fleabag.

Feminism, grief and modern relationships are all treated with telltale detached humour from Waller-Bridge, who adapted the show from her 2013 one-woman play at Edinburgh Fringe.

Incidentally, anyone struggling to lift a personal project off the ground will revel in this withering three-star review of Waller-Bridge’s play from The Telegraph – talk about not aging well.

Leaving viewers wanting more, the show aired for only two seasons, much to the muddled disappointment and celebration of fans, reluctantly lauding the production team for not dragging out a good thing. Quit while you’re ahead and all that.

You will, of course, need a valid TV license and a BBC iPlayer account. It’s easy to create an account, provided you’re over 13 years and have a UK postcode.

Across the English Channel, there’s an altogether more curious option on the table. Mouche is a French reworking of Fleabag, with Camille Cottin starring the eponymous main character (literal translation: “fly”).

Since Mouche’s debut, mixed reviews have ensued: the Guardian’s take on it was “lust in translation”.

Nord VPN: A good all-rounder, NordVPN is reliable, quick and hassle-free. Prospective buyers can get a free seven-day trial if they’re on the fence about committing. The only downside is that it can be a tad expensive if you do sign up to the pay-monthly service, but its three-year plan works out to just £2.20 per month, which is great value for money.

Surfshark VPN: While not as zippy as the first two, Surfshark VPN is less expensive, making it a great budget-friendly option. Be wary if you’re thinking of browsing from particularly long distances, though; if you’re trying to connect from Australia to a UK server, this VPN might not be the optimum choice for you.
