Decent performance and interchangeable front panels make this an attractive reader, but it's fiddly to connect.

External 3.5in drive bays can be a rarity on modern PCs, so this 5.25in card reader from Lindy could be a good choice. Although the picture shows it to have a blue front panel, silver and black panels are also included in the box. The panels just clip on, so they’re easy to replace.

The reader is a little annoying to connect as the USB header connectors for the card reader (most common formats are supported) and two USB ports, use individual connectors rather than a single block connector. This is not only more fiddly, but requires you to be careful so that you don’t accidentally plug the cables in the wrong way round.

The front Firewire port is a little disappointing, as the connecting cable has to be run outside the case and connected to an external Firewire port. The USB ports can be connected in a similar way if you don’t have a spare header.

Performance was excellent, with write speeds of 3.01MB/sec and read speeds of 13.5MB/sec. It’s a decent reader, but Akasa’s Internal Multi Card Reader
