The latest offshoot of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, became the 11th of its furious ilk. However, the fun doesn’t stop there. Fast & Furious 9 is currently in production, scheduled for release in May 2020.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the first film that started it all. Despite mixed reviews, 2001’s ‘The Fast and the Furious’ became a commercial success. Vin Diesel (that’s his stage name, by the way) and Paul Walker, who were relative unknowns until that point, became household names as Dominic Toretto and Detective Brian O’Conner.
As the franchise kept growing, different cast members were gradually added to the list, until Fast and Furious reached almost superhero status with a stellar ensemble cast including Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jason Statham, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Gal Gadot, Sung Kang and Elsa Pataky – many of whom dip in and out of different movies unless, of course, their characters are killed off.
People wondered how the franchise would move ahead after lead actor Walker passed away during the filming of Furious 7 but – thanks to the magic of CGI – his brothers stepped in to complete his filming sequences. The filmmakers then rewrote the script to give him and his onscreen wife (Brewster) a happy ending.

The Fast and the Furious franchise is now the ninth highest-grossing film franchise of all time, ahead of Jurassic Park, Batman and Transformers. Apart from great cars, well-choreographed races, macho fight sequences and over-the-top stunts, the franchise also has a great soundtrack.

We mentioned at the start that there are 11 Fast and Furious Films that have been released so far. If you counted nine films, then you’re nearly right, because there are two prelude films that are also officially counted as part of the ‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise.
However, it’s worth noting that these two prelude films are not included on the streaming services mentioned below. They mostly come as special edition discs with the Blu-ray versions of the accompanying film.

In today’s smartphone day-in-age it’s nigh on impossible to not have either a Google Play or an Apple ID. Like Dom and Brian, it looks like Apple and Google are neck-and-neck in this furious race. The first eight films (again, excluding the two preludes and Hobbs & Shaw) are available for £7.99 each, or as a bundle which works out slightly cheaper.
Both platforms also have the first eight films, but its name differs slightly based on which side of the pond you live; it’s called ‘Fast & Furious 8-Movie Collection’ in the UK and ‘Fast & Furious: The Ultimate Ride Collection’ in the US. How to watch Fast and Furious abroad and the UK: Netflix
Netflix is seriously lagging behind and desperately needs some NOS when it comes to updating its Fast and the Furious catalogue. Fast and Furious 7 is only available in the Netherlands and Spain. Meanwhile, Fast and Furious 8 is available in the UK, Canada, India, Portugal, Italy and a few more countries.
Unfortunately, these are the only two of the franchise you’ll be able to access on Netflix.
