Sony is preparing to open the Digital Motion Picture Centre at Pinewood Studios, to highlight its efforts to bring 4K video to the mainstream

Sony is gearing up to open its Digital Motion Picture Centre at Pinewood Studios, in an effort to prove its commitment to bringing 4K video to the mainstream and to create more content for its BRAVIA X9 4K TVs.

The new facility will provide a base for European production teams to meet and experience the company’s 4K filming and editing equipment, including the CineAlta F65, F55 and F5 cameras.

“Sony has a long history of developing leading edge technology including the world’s first 24P camera,” Peter Sykes, Sony’s Strategic Technology Manager, said. “We have designed the centre with the aim of making it easier for filmmakers and production crews to gain access to the technology, specialist knowledge and experience that has been gained over many years.”

The centre will be open to cinematographers, film crews and freelance operators, in order to give them an insight into Sony’s cinema ecosystem before they invest in expensive hardware.

Katsunori Yamanouchi, Vice President of Sony’s Professional Solutions Europe division, said “This new facility will be a place where members of the European production community can meet, find out about the latest technologies and share experiences.” The push will hopefully lead to more content being made available for the company’s range of 4K TVs in the future.

The Digital Motion Picture Centre will open from September onwards, with scheduled workshops and drop in sessions planned. You can find more information and register for alerts at pro.sony.eu/DMPC.
